Full Description
Former Portsea town gate built in 1779, then entrance to the naval dockyard. Demolished and re-erected as dockyard entrance in 1865. The gate bears an entablature with cornice and pediment in which is a unicorn couchant and bearing standard.
The Unicorn Gate was originally located on Anchor Gate Road, just east of the present Anchor Gate. It is now reset on the alignment of the dockyard extension wall.
