Building MPM812 - CHAIN AND CABLE TEST HOUSE AND STORE, CAPSTAN, CHAIN HAULAGE-WAYS ON NORTH (BUILDING NUMBER 1/41)

Naval chain and cable test house and store designed by Captain R. S Beatson (Royal Engineers), roof by H. Grissell, built 1844-47. A new annealing house was added in 1866, and a new test house with more powerful testing machinery in 1880. A lot of the external structure had to be rebuilt following bomb damage sustained in 1940. The floor was re-laid 1991-92. [1]

Chain and cable testing house and store built 1843. Originally a chain store and then used as a chain and cable test house from 1905 until the 1970s. The house had its own independent hydraulic pressure mechanism, most recently by Greenwood & Batley of Leeds, which was installed in 1929. The roof, windows and machinery were damaged during an air raid on the 12th August 1940. [2]
