Full Description
Former School of Naval Architecture in Portsmouth Dockyard, built 1815-17 and designed by Edward Holl. The building originally provided classrooms and accommodation for up to 25 apprentice shipwrights. [1]
The architectural school was closed in 1830. Since then the building has had a number of educational uses as the Central Mathematical School (1848-1853), RN War Course College (1905-c1930) and the Tactical School (Second World War). During the post-war period it has been used as NATO HQ and to house the Ship Maintenance Authority in 1972. The building is currently the offices of Fleet Engineering. [2]
