Listed Building: STRATHEARN HOTEL (1387215)

On left: house, now flats. 1860-2. By TE Owen. Stucco and stone. Welsh slate roof, brick stack to right on rear pitch. 2 storeys, basement and attic, 2 bays. On right: pair of houses, then hotel, now flats. c1880-90. Red brick in stretcher bond, rendered dressings. Welsh slate mansard roof, brick stack on left, right and centre. 3 storeys, basement and attic. EXTERIOR: 4 first floor windows. Long and short rendered quoin strips at corners. Left hand block has 2 gabled bays. Projecting left bay has 3-light mullioned and transomed casement window; right bay a shallow canted bay with similar 5-light windows, untransomed on 1st floor, with cornice and crenellated parapet, 2-light casement to attic set within gable. Left bay has 2-light mullioned casements on first floor and 3 small casements to attic with centre casement taller. Rear part in random rubble with irregular long and short stone quoins, central 3-storey tower with cornice band and crenellated parapet, small tower on right with corbelled stone brackets. On left rectangular bay with slate hipped roof. Narrow windows on all floors. Right-hand part has central 2-leaf, 6-panelled door at centre, lower panels moulded and upper glazed; overlight. Fixed window light on right side of door, pilasters flanking door and window with heavy shaped brackets at top supporting cornice. The whole set within ornate timber and glass porch. To left and to right, full-height tripartite canted bay windows with 3 sashes, rendered pilasters dividing lights. Ground floor sashes have moulded rendered sills with brackets; moulded cornice over first floor window heads with pediments over windows and paired sashes to central bay; elaborate ironwork balustrade to continuous, bracketed balcony on first and second floors with rendered dressings. Frieze and cornice over second floor and parapet blocking course. 4 dormers. INTERIOR not inspected.
