Listed Building: EASTNEY DEPOT: GAS ENGINE HOUSE (1104351)

Gas engine house with 2 gas engines. Formerly part of Portsmouth Corporation Pumping station, now preserved as an industrial monument. 1904. Red brick in Flemish bond. Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Square rusticated brick quoin strips up to window sill level then panelled pilasters to eaves. North facing elevation has on right 10 stone steps descending below ground level to entrance with brick stone copped flanking walls with attached iron railings, recessed 2-leaf boarded door with 24-pane overlight. On first floor three 16-pane metal casements, each set under gauged brick segmental arch, stone sill, brick band at sill level. Dentilled brick eaves. 3 original metal flues attached externally to wall. Right return has 3 similar metal casements and facing gable with ornate brick patterned dentils. INTERIOR: contains 2 out of 3 of its original Crossley Engines and Tongye Pumps. Pump house, boiler house and chimney (qv) form a group with the engine house (qv) and gas engine house.
