Scheduled Monument: Eastney forts and perimeter defences of barracks (1001830)

1981 All built between 1862 and 1867 of brick with flint panelling. West Fort: interior now a private garden. A number of original fillings such as sailings survive and magazines-some 1st World War gun emplacements. Moat partly filled in. East Fort: now occupied by ASWE which has erected aerials etc in the earthwork. Little left of interior of magazines. Moat in reasonable condition. Firing Step: between the forts. A grass-covered bank surviving to original heights for the W two fifths, the rest almost levelled. Perimeter wall 12ft high, pierced with high firing loops, originally on W, E and N sides of barracks matching N walls of forts. Main gate on W side. Half of N wall and fraction of E wall have been demolished. 2007 West Battery - Interior of fort is currently laid out as a private garden for use by the residents of Teapot Row and Crinoline Gardens.
