Event/Activity EPM262 - Archaeological Watching Brief at Hedley House, Copper Beech Drive, Farlington

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology on geotechnical test pits at Hedley House, Farlington, on the 24th August 1998. The work took place prior to redevelopment for residential housing. A total of six machine dug test pits were excavated measuring between 2m and 2.5m x 1m, the majority of which were 3m deep. The only structure encountered during the watching brief was a modern wall foundation. Two linear features, possibly ditches, were recorded in two of the test pits. It was concluded that the presence of archaeological features in two out of the six pits suggested a reasonably high concentration of archaeology on the site which could be defined by further investigation. The location of the site has been estimated using the 1952 and modern (2022) OS maps alongside a plan in the report. Museum Accession Number: 2022/28
