Event/Activity EPM54 - The George Restaurant Queen Street
Technique(s)
Date
1988
Organisation
Unassigned
Description
Building work in the cellar of The George restaurant (George Hotel), 84 Queen Street. Finds included fragments of tombstones and pieces of leather (possibly from when the premises belonged to a cobbler 1849-1913). The tombstones were apparently used as cellar foundations. The largest piece was inscribed in memory of Margaret, wife of Peter Bell.
The finds were sent to Portsmouth City Museum for identification.
