Description

Archaeological watching brief carried out during the excavation of foundation and service trenches prior to the construction of the Technopole. The excavation of the groundworks was performed using back actors with toothed buckets, observed by an archaeologist, and all layers were recorded and the spoil heaps examined for artefacts. A series of hand excavated trenches were observed on a grassed area near to the Admiral Drake PH, and two test pits excavated to acertain if the site had been contaminated by an oil leak during development on an adjacent site were also observed and recorded archaeologically. The strata reflected modern landscaping and demolition, with clear evidence of levelling in some area. It was thought possible that the surrounding area may contain remains associated with the early settlement of the aera, if levelling has not been as significant as within the Technopole site boundaries. Accession number 2001/12
