Full Description

Former ward block to the Portsea Island Union Workhouse Infirmary built in 1883. The block opposite (MPM1999) apparently housed the 'lunatic' wards for patients with mental health disorders. It is not clear whether this block also housed 'lunatic' wards. These wards were located in the wings of the main infirmary building prior to the construction of the new block. The workhouse infirmary later became St Mary's Hospital. The block has now been converted into private flats.
