Find Spot MPM2068 - Glass inkwell and bottle, Portsmouth Harbour

The Inkwell and bottle were recorded as being found at the same location on consecutive days during dredging in Portsmouth Harbour. The inkwell was rectangular, made from greenish glass and embossed with the decorative marking 'M'. It was dated to the later 19th or 20th century.

The flat 'egg bottle' was made from pale greenish glass and embossed with embossed 'LENEY DOVER'. Alfred Leney had a brewing company in Dover in the 19th and early 20th century. This type of bottle was introduced around the turn of the 20th century and was common during the Edwardian period.

Stray finds that may have been thrown overboard from a vessel in the harbour or from the shore.
