Full Description
Stoneware bottle recovered from Portsmouth Harbour by grab during dredging in 2016. The bottle is inscribed 'Warren's Liquid Blacking, Wholesale Retail & Exportation, No. 14 St Martins Lane'. Liquid blackening was an early form of shoe polish. Warren's were based at 14 St Martins Lane London between 1795 and 1816.
