Find Spot MPM2097 - Great Eastern Hotel bottle, Portsmouth Harbour

Clear glass bottle from the Great Eastern Hotel Calcutta recovered by grab from a crane barge in 2016 during the Queen Elizabeth Class Capital Dredge Project.

Clear glass bottle 163mm high with a 72mm diameter at the base. The bottle has the words 'Great Eastern', 'Hotel Co', 'Limited' and 'Calcutta spaced around the circumference. The Great Eastern Hotel in Calcutta was originally known as the Auckland Hotel until 1915 when it changed its name. The bottle was probably lost over the side of a ship or dumped in the harbour.
