Full Description

The remains of an incomplete wooden wreck were recovered from Portsmouth Harbour during dredging works. The partial and fragmented wreck site was identified during pre-dredge clearance and the remains were then recovered by grab. Subsequent inspection of the timbers has suggested the remains of the vessel included the aft lifting eye portion of the keel and aft section of the upper works, probably from the port side of the boat. Surviving sections of planking and loose timbers that were recovered would probably have been positioned between these two sections.

The finds report for the Capital Dredge Project draws comparisons between the wreck and the 1915 ships launch 'Cyclops' which was undergoing restoration at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. This type of boat was attached to Royal Navy battleships.

The wreck was dating to c.1898. See finds report for the Queen Elizabeth Class Capital Dredge Project for full description and interpretation.
