Building MPM404 - 6 ADMIRALTY ROAD

Site of a former late 18th century terraced house, built c.1780. The property was in use as a domestic dwelling until it became part of the Brickwoods Brewery premises in 1946, probably being used as offices. Brickwoods was bought by Whitbread Wessex in 1972, who owned the site until the brewery closed in 1989. The building was later modified in order to provide toilet facilities for visitors to the Historic Dockyard (the car park was located on land behind), and parts of the house were used to store retail stock. A building assessment in 2003 recorded the survival of many original features e.g. trim, joinery etc. and stated that the building was an important survival of Georgian Portsea, having survived the Blitz and post-war redevelopment.

The building was demolished post-2004 to allow a major redevelopment of the site for appartments and a car park.

The building was formerly Grade II Listed.
