Full Description
Town boundary stone dating to 1799, marking the boundary of the old Borough of Portsmouth prior to it being extended in 1832. The stone is a four sided obelisk on a corniced pedestal, with a relief of the borough arms and the inscriptions "Burgi De Portesmouth, Liberatum Limer" and "Anno Domini MDCCXCIX" (the latter is on the base). A bronze plaque reads "This stone marks the Boundary of the Borough of Portsmouth prior to the extension of 1832".
