Building MPM766 - FLINT LODGE AND ATTACHED CONSERVATORY AND WALL

Villa built in 1853 and designed by Thomas Ellis Owen. [1] A plaque attached to one of the outer walls of the house bears the date of its construction as 1851. [2]

Twelve fragments of window glass from the property were chemically analysed in 2009-2010, to try and identify the composition of the glass originally installed in 1851. This research formed part of a larger project by English Heritage to investigate the chemical composition of window glass produced and used in Britain during the past five centuries. Samples of glass were removed from the Tack Room and Laundry Room during refurbishment. Eleven of the fragments probably represented the glass installed in 1851, with the remaining fragment probably representing a later replacement. [2]
