Event/Activity EPM31 - 72-76 High Street Cosham
Technique(s)
Date
November 2004
Organisation
CKC Archaeology
Description
To be viewed in conjunction with Site Activity PM30. The area of re-development was extended to take in 72 High Street. As with the earlier watching brief the site drew a blank on historic activity. A single pit was recorded with a modern fill, and was thought to be an egineers test pit, excavated as part of the preliminary works on the site. This and previous work has confirmed documentary research which suggested that until the early 20th century, the site appears to have been within farmland that may once have been part of a medieval open field system. The site was not occupied by street front buildings between 1910 and 1932.
