Monument MPM1881 - Remains of the apex to the East Ravelin
Summary
The salient apex to the East Ravelin was revealed during an archaeological evaluation in Ravelin Park in 1972. The East Ravelin formed part of the remodelled 18th century Portsmouth town defences, and was demolished 1860s/1870s.

Full Description
A trench excavated as part of an archaeological evaluation in Ravelin Park in 1972 uncovered the salient apex of the East Ravelin. This was encountered 0.3m below ground level, masonry surviving 0.15m below ground. The facing stone had been robbed. The East Ravelin (see MPM34) formed part of the remodelled 18th century Portsmouth town defences designed by Desmaretz, and was demolished 1860s/1870s.
