Building MPM1998 - St Mary's Community Building

Former lodge (west) to the Portsea Island Union Workhouse built c1845. Now a Community Centre. Partially rebuilt in 1990. One of two lodges situated to the north of the main workhouse building (now St Mary's House). The east lodge is now known as St Mary's Lodge.

By 1870 an extention had been added to the lodge building. This was removed prior to the redevelopment of the site in c1990.

1-storey building. Inward facing front has at centre a 6-panelled door set under flat stone arch with dropped keystone, flanking engaged Doric columns, entablature and open segmental pediment, brick band at frieze level. On right of building is a C20 casement set under flat brick arch. Rusticated brick quoins and projecting eaves with paired shaped brackets to each corner, hipped slated roof. Round headed sashes set under a gauged brick round arch with brick keystone, 3 to south side and 2 to north side.
